The Ministry Of Motherhood

After surviving experiencing motherhood for 25 years, I used to think this state of being a mother would lead me to a state institution... seriously! (only a mother can understand this)

But as we all know, the blessing of children is in fact, the most wonderful gift that God gives to women.  I also believe that motherhood is a ministry -- one in which mothers have a tremendous responsibility and opportunity to shape the lives of their children.  They set the standard of excellence in the home through example (or should), provide unconditional, unfailing love (or should), and shape the world around their children to become wonderful human beings (or should). When I think about ministry, one word comes to mind, SERVICE.  But what about the Ministry Of Motherhood?

From a Believer's perspective, motherhood allows us to give our whole hearts to another person built upon the foundation of love for a lifetime.  We find ways to make character building a daily part of life and we teach our children in the same manner that the Lord taught His disciples; one-on-one.  As a single mother, I took upon myself the responsibility to make my home Christ-centered teaching diligently, both of my children to follow Christ.  Have there been difficulties along the way, of course!  But in ministry it is a continual calling to be the hands and feet of Jesus -- one that never gives up believing that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

When God calls, He equips and being a mother is a deep and personal calling on a woman's life to walk full time in the Ministry Of Motherhood.

Well written!  I have 2 daughters in elementary school.  We are trying to set good examples and make sure they grow up knowing Christ.  We want to make sure they know God has a plan especially for there lives and hope they don't wait until they are adults to realize this.  I grew up in a Christian home but was in my 30's before I realized Christ had an individual plan for my life.  I think at this stage in my life it is simply to bring the girls up in a Christ centered home and to pray on a regular basis for my 13 nieces and nephews.  I try to find ways to reach out to there friends as well but so far haven't made to much progress there.

Barbara,

Motherhood is a very real example and opportunity of unconditional, continuous love. :)

Yes and when you have grandchildren the love and teaching takes on a whole new meaning. Aren't we lucky to be so blessed with children and grandchildren? I have found that I have learned as much from them as they from me.

I also teach 8th graders--now there is an education---I learn something new everyday---somethings are better left unsaid---LOL

Oh Barbara, What can I say other than what a nice post to reflect your true calling.  God indeed chose the mother to be special in the lives of the children.  Your perspective combined with your husbands is totally different in many ways.  I enjoyed reading your post, and just for the record.... us men often are ready for a state institution many times as well.  Your not alone on this one.  LOL

You will someday sit back and wonder where did all those good times go.  Kids running around and having fun, etc.  Keep up the good work.

Hi Wendy: You are doing an awesome job!  Sometimes God's plans and purposes aren't revealed at an early age but one day they will be. Hats off to you for bringing up your children in a home that knows the Lord!  GBU! Barbara :)

Thanks for sharing Barabara - your post is right on!

There is nothing that brings more joy and pain than motherhood - although I have to say that after 25 years their corpus callosums close/fuse and they are much more mature and easier to deal with than adolescence :)  - My oldest recently called me to apologize for what she put us through growing up....apparently she has a younger friend of hers who was complaining about her parents and she recognized her past imaturities in the conversation:) she said it was like looking back in a mirror - imagine that !

That was a call for the memory books

Philippians 4:13 used to be taped to my bathroom mirror for years when raising the girls :)

Sincerely,

Grace

Hi Jeff & Grace: Thanks for sharing your experience! It's a wonderful thing when our kids reflect back on their lives and can choose to make amends for chooses made in the past. How awesome and what a beautiful gift that is! GBU, Barbara :)
