The Reason I Was Created.

I will celebrate my birthday this coming Saturday and unlike my oldest son who claims he can remember when he was in my womb (no kidding!), today during my time with the Lord, I thought about the reason why I was created.  Having lived 50 years on this earth, the answer as to why The Father made me came quite effortlessly.

Opening my bible I went to Psalm 20:4.  I noticed this verse was dated last year in 2008 when He first spoke these words to me.

"May the Lord grant you according to your heart's desire and fulfill all your purpose." Psalm 20:4 NKJV

I pondered, what is my heart's desire and my purpose? I concluded my heart's desire is my purpose.  My desire (to love God, to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, and to be His friend) is my purpose (the reason why I was created).  To love God speaks of intimacy. To worship God is to praise Him for who He is and to be His friend is to commit myself to relationship with Him.  My statement as to why I was created therefore is:

"The reason I was created is to be His friend; to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (The Word) and to have a committed and enduring relationship with Him.  Not a casual encounter but an intimate involvement, a romantic pursuit and a complete and total abiding trust in Him knowing that He loves me."  Barbara Ries

-- Perhaps you might want to think of the same question.  Why were you created by God?  I would enjoy reading your responses so please post them here so that may be an encouragement to others.

GBY!  Barbara :)

Barbara,

Happy Birthday!  What a beautiful post!  We all need to stop and think, why were we created?  I think one of the reasons is to witness and touch the lives of others.  You have just done that.  Thanks, and may God bless you.

Barbara - Happy Birthday!  I will also turn 50 this year and looking forward to a wonderful 2009.  We all have a purpose in life, whether large or small, our purpose is reasoned and truly great in the eyes of the Lord.  All the best.

Happy Birthday..give yourself a hug!  I think we are on the earth the short short time to help others, make the world a better place to live, to learn what happiness, peace and love are all about. If you are grateful and full of joy, folks other than crabby unhappy ones want to be around you and your kids learn about giving back.  You and I have so much to be grateful, happy about. Good post!

I still remember the words of my childhood catechism class - that we were made to "Know Him, Love Him, and Serve Him."  With these three goals in mind, it extends to learning about God, spending time with Him at prayer and Mass, and serving everyone, as they are made in His image and likeness.

I love reading everyone's posts. They're ALL GOOD! :) What came to mind as I was reading them was Ephesians 2:10 "For we are HIS workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." I love that...He permits us to be a part of His work...using us to help others and using others to lift us up as well! HAPPY B-DAY Barbara, and thanks again for reminding me that each new day has a special purpose!

Barbara, Happy Birthday to you!  What a wonderful post.  I think I was created to comfort others.  I try everyday to "make" someone's day.  Most days I succeed.  SOme days it's a little thing, others it may be a big thing.  ONe of the best ever was a few years ago when a friend was struggling monetarily.  She didn't have money to buy anything for her son for Christmas.  I handed her $200 and said "it's yours and I don't want it back.  Now get something for your family".  It made me feel Sooo good .... and she was very happy.

Great Commission - to spread the Gospel to the entire earth - where I can't go, I send - where I can go, I witness.
