I love Thanksgiving and every single year I have recurring thoughts of sitting in a horse-drawn sleigh being pulled along a snowy path. I see myself all snuggled up next to my true love traveling on a path newly insulated by freshly fallen snow and of course, the cold. Brrr!! But I'm not worried because my hands are nestled in a muff and my toes are toasty and warm in my fur-lined mukluks. (yes, I used to have a pair) -- not quite a fashion statement BUT they are warm!
Today I thought about "the path" not the one engraved by a horse-drawn sled but the narrow path engraved in the Word of God. How many times was I content doing things that appeared to be the way to do them. I can honestly tell you that when I made those choices they failed for the most part; if not for His mercy and grace. The Bible makes reference to this in Proverbs 14:12 - "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." NKJV. What seems right has its motivation in self but what is right finds its motivation in God's Word.
What then is the narrow path? The narrow path is a life of consecration and holiness where one's singleness of purpose and the only point of their existence is Jesus. It is finding Him as the only way, His Word as the only direction and His love as the only requirement whereby; honoring God becomes the highest calling. Everything we adore is found in Him. Each moment that we're awake, and every breath we are privileged to take is dedicated to God. The way is narrow and few are those who find it (Matthew 7:14) but it can be found. It may not be the easiest route but it is the path that leads to fullness of life and it is the only course to take for every true Believer in Christ Jesus.
