More Time To Love!

It comes as no surprise to anyone aware of the current housing crisis that sellers aren't selling and buyers are taking their time trying to find the best deals.  Maybe it's just me, but I have more time on my hands than ever before.  Today as I thought of other ways to earn money I was reminded by The Holy Spirit that God always has and always will provide for my need.  Not that He expects me to sit around waiting for some angelic lottery to be deposited into my bank account but surely He prefers that I utilize this slow time in some fruitful way.  Regardless of how I and you already serve God, consider other ways to be used even more.  If you want to be His hands, His feet and His heart to someone then take your downtime and 'do unto others' meaningful expressions of love.  Consider it a privilege to be a servant as Jesus was. Give sacrificially to others your time and energy as Jesus did.  Focus your eyes on the needs of others and not on the challenges of the times we live in as Jesus would. There's a time for everything under heaven -- for me; more time to love is now!

A Time for Everything

1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:

2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

9 What does the worker gain from his toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.

Hi Barbara,

You are doing the right thing by trusting God with your time. I have a tendency to get caught up with my own schedule (to-do list), but I am comforted in knowing that "while I plan my steps, God directs my path".

Thank you for a good post! Deborah :)

Barbara: Excellent message! Those of us that say "well, I'll get around to service when I have some time" ... now can roll up their sleeves and use their talents to help their brothers and sisters.

My service time is and has always been the best part of my life's work. God Bless, and Happy Thanksgiving. Our cups runneth over.

Hi Barbara,

I've thought about this a lot, about how God provides. What does it mean for him to provide for my needs? I used to have a list that I thought God should provide for. Then I would get perplexed if there wasn't enough money for something (like in the early days, not having money for the car payment). It would sometimes feel like God was failing me.

I am now convinced that He has been providing not only for my needs but that my cup runs over. I have not gone homeless, I have never not had food to eat, my car is a luxury, no matter how much I think I need it. It's really changed how I look at things. What I am prepared to submit to? Will I submit to anywhere that God leads? For example, What if that means the stock market crashes next year and I lose my car and I have to ride the bus? What if that means my real estate company fails and I have to wait tables to eat?

I actually looked at Ecclesiastes a bit differently. Those few verses point to the meaninglessness of pursuing life on our terms. Of wanting it to look a certain way. Of the lack of purpose outside of God's purpose for us. If you read Ecclesiastes to the end, you see that although everything has it's seasons, everything is utterly meaningless without God. We can't give meaning to anything, because everything is vanity. Everything is fleeting, and doesn't last. God doesn't want our purpose to be our experiences or the things we have. Everything was made to be supplementary to living in his Kingdom, the Kingdom Jesus inaugurated with His coming. What does it mean to live in His Kingdom? Does God have a purpose for me that is more than living and experiencing life, saving for retirement, crossing goals off my checklist? Do I have to do anything for God? Or is He more concerned with my being (instead of my doing)? What would it mean for me to be with God instead of to do for God? Would being with God also change my doing? Would it change what my hearts longs for? Would it change my goals, my outlook?

Solomon addressed that the seasons are futile in Ecclesiastes. He was the richest King of Israel yet he was dissatisfied, disillusioned. He spent his life, his days, amassing wealth, married beautiful women, strengthening his Kingdom, yet at the end, he called it all worthless. Meaning did not come from it. It did not satisfy. There was something better than all of it, and it was free. It was God.

We can spend our lives living in the wrong reality. Asking God to come into our world, to do for us. Being discontent with our reality. God wants us to enter his reality. He wants us to not only give of our ourselves, but literally give ourselves. Our whole selves. It might be through real estate. It might be through caring, listening, validating, sharing, praying. We can be people in God's Kingdom who give ourselves to Him every day. Our work can be our ministry, as well as our non-work. All of it can be anointed. =)
