Think about this the next time someone tells you they are waiting on the Lord.
Scripture tells us in Isaiah 40:31 to wait on the Lord meaning, "to expect, look for, and hope in Him." But I also believe that we are to wait on God as a waitress does her customer. Dictionary.com defines 'wait on' as "to supply the wants of a person, as serving a meal or serving a customer in a store." Interesting. So what this indicates is not only do we delay decisions, or postpone action until we know God's will in a situation -- which by the way, may or may not be realized in our own timing; but it also suggests that we pour ourselves into Him through acts of service. This clearly demonstrates a trusting heart and a resolve to focus on Christ and the work He has for us to do, rather than on our issue at hand. It takes a dedicated patience to have this attitude because let's face it, waiting can be hard to do. Determine to be steadfast in your wait and use the time invested in the delay to wait on God by serving Him. Trust me; I've been to the 11th hour and not once did He allow me to go one minute further in my wait.

Barbara,
Waiting on God also means trusting in or relying on Him. :)
Steve
Barbara...that is an on time word for me.
HI BARBARA!
Isn't it comforting knowing that He will carry you to and through your waiting? What a joy it is to wait on Him!
Thanks for sharing,
Wow Barbara! Nice post! It makes me think of the story of Ruth and Boaz and how Ruth waited upon her Boaz! The Bible tells us to "Delight ourselves, also, in the Lord and He will grant us the desires of our heart".. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Barbara great post...as I sit here & ask what is it that I'm supposed to be doing during this really slow Real Estate time. There are so many acts of service that could be fulfilled & I should focus on that rather than this huge bump in the road.
Hi Steve: Thank you for your post and yes!!, waiting on God involves trusting Him. GBU! Barbara :)
Hi Patty: That is so cool! I used to think that my role in waiting on God was simply to do nothing in trust, which it is; however when my eyes are set wholly on Him, He becomes my focus not the situation. GBU and please visit us again. Barbara :)
Hi Yvette: How true!... and what an assurance knowing that God is in control that whatever we face in life He already has the answer. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the group. GBU! Barbara :)
Hi Don: Thanks for sharing with the group! I love the word 'delight' and knowing the enjoyment we can have in the Lord. Thanks again for Don. GBU! Barbara :)
Hi Yvette: I hear 'ya sister! In the serving there is great blessing in giving our time and love to others -- and who know;God can send people our way in the process who need to buy a home. His redeems every minute of time the enemy meant for our harm and turns it around for our good -- when we seek Him in first. GBU! Barbara :)
I agree we are to "wait" as in serve the lord while we are waiting.
Hi Chuck: Thanks for stopping by and for posting to the group. Whatever way we choose to wait on the Lord, whether it is to be still and wait for an answer or to serve God, the meaning in essence, is the same; to focus on God and trust Him in the process. GBU! Barbara :)
God is always with us.
You hit a good topic with me tonight. Waiting on the Lord. That's a very tough subject and I think we all will take a lifetime to learn this one. We have been such a microwave society, it seems that wait no longer exist in the dictionary. Thanks for the reminder tonight.
Hi Lisa: Thank you for the word of exhortation! GBU! Barbara :)
Loreena: That is so true. Waiting on God is much easier. He takes the pressure off of us actually, when we make the choice to wait. I guess the operable words here are "make the choice" -- I appreciate your thoughts and thanks for your post. GBU! Barbara :)
Barbara - this is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. Not that it's easy to do, to wait expectantly for what He is going to do. Yet the peace that it gives me knowing that I can give my trials to Him is worth it. Still, it's not easy to do. Sometimes I have to wait one minute at a time, one hour at a time. GBU!
Hi Sharon: Isn't His peace incredible! In my humanness it baffles me when I think of His peace and how it can and will overrule even the most trying of circumstances. Thank you so much for your thoughts and please stop by again. GBU! Barbara :)
Peace in the midst of a storm, God gives us his answers in time. Faith and trust are the only way to the true purpose in life.
Hi Kathy: That is very true. I like the song "It Is Well With my Soul" which is a great reminder of his peace. Thank you for your comments and for stopping by. GBU! Barbara :)
Waiting can sometimes be trying. But I guarantee you if you wait it is well worth it. We have to remember that God is our Source and everyone and everything are just resources. I am thankful that the Word tells us to wait patiently upon the Lord and He will give us the desires of our heart.
