The beautiful way God orchestrates friendships.

It never ceases to amaze me the beautiful way God orchestrates friendships.  Some friendships last for years and some just for a season.  Regardless, God is always faithful to bring people into our lives with a purpose.  Sometimes that purpose can be momentary and yet in another way can be the perfect compliment in our time of need.

Have you ever met someone that you knew as a divine appointment?  You know what I mean.  Someone who seems to have come out of nowhere with no announcement just one day the two of you meet and Bingo!!, it was friendship at first sight?

These wonderful 'appointments' in our lives both feed us emotionally and spiritually.  They are God's hands and feet that come to bring joy when we're downcast, encouragement during times of distress and security when we feel alone.  The epitome of God's love can be found in one who gives freely of themselves, caring and considering another, always there to lend a listening ear with a genuine concern for our well being.

Jesus had many friends but have you ever evaluated the people in your own life?

- The VIP's are very important people or those you are developing for leadership roles.  You share with them your vision for ministry.  They are quite reliable and grow daily in responsibility.

- There are also VTP's or very teachable people.  These are younger Believers who were open to learning and will be the leaders of tomorrow.

- VNP's are very nice people and are wonderful to be around but they make no difference as far as the spiritual life of others is concerned.  Our lives may be very full of VNP's.

- The most draining, however, of people are the VDP's or the very draining people.  They are the ones who create a negative balance in relationships.  They need constant advice, or problem solving and they give nothing in return -- sometimes not even a "thank you" or smile.

While Christ spent time with all four kinds of people, with whom did He devote most of His time during three years of ministry?  I love that Jesus calls us His friend.  I want to always be the kind of friend He is glad to be with.

The Beauty Of My Friend

My friend is someone special to me,

The one who gently covers a need.

Always through love it's Jesus I see,

A smile from heaven in word and in deed.  br/8/08

Amen.

I am blessed with many friends. I am thankful for the VDP's because they provide great contrast and help me focus on being a leader, on being nice, and on being an example of the light and love that reside within each and every one of us.

Barbara:  I ahve always believed that God sends VDP's into the lives of those that he has prepared to minister to them specifically.  I get many of them in the RE business and consider it an honor to share Christ's love with them and minister to their needs whenever I can!  God always sees fit to bless me in ways that I never dreamed possible as a result!

Barbara, a very interesting perspective. I enjoyed your post. I can relate to what you are saying on so many personal levels. God has blessed me with several divine appointments, indeed. :-)

Barbara,

Not only friends, but how many times have associates, customers, and others come into our lives according to God's timing at just the right time for just the right purpose?

Hi Steve:  So true!  One can certainly minister to a person who is needy -- He uses people significantly in the Kingdom.  What a blessing so many people have been in my own life when I was a wretched and yes, very draining woman to others.  The Lord is so faithful!!... it always amazes me.  Thanks for your post and sharing it with the group.  Barbara :)

Carol: Wow, thank youl! ... those divine appointments are incredible!  Just when we seem no one cares, then BOOM!! -- here comes a like-minded, kindred spirit that you know is directly from God's phone book.  Gotta love His ways, ALWAYS!!  Barbara :)

Hi Steve:  I totally agree. Sometimes someone comes along that we will minister too in their need, absolutely.

For the sake of this blog though, the VDP'S referred to here are individuals who create negative balance in our lives on a continual basis if we allow it.  I have seen many people become emotionally exhausted in the process of relationship with draining people.

Personally, I know this all too well because I used to be one of those draining people myself --- until I realized I needed to be healed emotionally by Jesus.

Thanks so much for your insight. God bless you!  Barbara :)

What a nice and uplifting post, thanks Barbara!  Friends are so important to our healthy development as people, and the special ones are the ones that make us better for having known them.  The truely special ones are those who besides making us better, help us to remember that Christ had friends, and that there is a way in which we should minister to, and learn from these special friends.
