Who are you trying to represent anyway?
Men and woman alike whether they admit it or not are marketing themselves every day. We tend to overlook the fact that in this world marketing plays a huge part in how others perceive our success or worse, a lack of it. Why is it that we think that products we read about in fliers or hear on the radio are the only things marketed to us? The truth is that we are our own marketing tool every day in how we dress, speak and what we share with others. Whether we like it or not we in a constant dance of consumerism to present ourselves to the outside world.
Think about who you are trying to represent -- yourself or Christ? As representatives of Christ are you comfortable speaking freely about Jesus without being over-concerned that someone will think you're a religious zealot? Does your dress reflect modesty or modern trends? Do you groom yourself with care knowing that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit? Are people drawn to you by your words and thoughts that are tempered with love or do they gravitate toward you to hear coarse jokes or the latest office gossip?
Every day we have the choice to market ourselves as Believers in Jesus Christ. The concept of self-marketing is too often ignored so perhaps we need to revisit this and change our thinking. Consider intentionally marketing yourself by knowing your target market. As Believers it should be for the lost. Do as Jesus did and clothe yourself in humility, kindness, patience, purity, a welcoming smile, a tender gesture and love.
